Laser Eyes

On Monday, I finally took the plunge and decided to get LASIK at Dr. Boothe's office. He is the best in the country ... every major sports figure has had his or her eyes done by Dr. Boothe. You know this because the office is decked out from wall to wall with autographed jerseys and pictures. Rush Limbaugh was also one of the stars on the wall. So I knew I was in good hands.

Today was the big day. Jill drove me to the office on this rainy and cold 40 degree day. They gave me a sedative and then made some cool marks on my eyes (the dots you see in the picture). Then I was off to the surgery room where it felt like a meat locker. They were playing some funky music. They sliced the cornea flap and then I waited 20 minutes with my eyes closed. By that time, the sedative was really working well because while I sat there with my eyes closed, I could see all sorts of funky kalidescope stuff ... it was a wild trip.

Then came the LASIK. When I laid down, The Doors' "Break on Through to the other Side" started playing. It was neat music to go with the laser show. When he fired the laser, I could smell it burn the eyes. Next they wheeled me into the waiting room with my eyes closed and sooner than I knew it, Jill was picking me up.

It is amazing to think I can see without contacts or glasses. I think I'll feel a lot better when the eyes are healed. I still have a contact-like bandage in my eyes right now. Those come out tomorrow morning.

Congrats on the Lasik, Don. Way to be brave. Not sure I could go thru with it, maybe one of these days. Don't forget to post later how your healing is going.

You say Dr. Boothe is the best in the country but my 1st counselor says their practice is #1. His name is Phil Hoopes. I bet Dr. Boothe has heard of him. He does all the major athletes here like Jazz players, golf professionals, etc.
