Don't You Just Love This Kid?

Ben is a smart cookie and he's always thinking and pondering (just read Jill's post about the funny things he says).

Today I found this picture on my flash drive. The backgroud story to this picture is that in Ben's preschool class they have a class pet. Everyone gets to take Lucky the Lion home with them for a few days. Before they take Lucky back to school, they have to write in the journal about what they did with Lucky and paste a picture along-side. This was Ben's picture. At first glance, it's a cute picture. But once you break it down, you see how cool Ben's thinking is.

A) This is Lucky the Lion chilling out next to his best friend Ben. Notice the cool look on Lucky's face. Do you dare confront him? Also notice the appropriate amount of space between these two friends.

B) The weapon of choice for your Jedi Knight. This must be included in all official pictures. Lucky and Ben engaged in numerous imaginary light-saber fights during Lucky's visit.

C) Ben's arms are so positioned to instill fear into any opponent ... just look at those George Q's.

D) Ben's head and chin are ever so slightly raised so as to correspond with the position of his arms. Don't let the smile on his face deceive you ... he's one tough dude!

E) Ben's PJs.

This picture sums up Ben perfectly ... happy, calculating, pensive and tough. I love this kid!

Funny things the kids say. . .

A friend of mine is very good at keeping track of funny things that her kids say. So, I have recently been trying to do the same. I thought I would share some of them.

EMMA:

We were on a walk and out of the blue Emma said "Mom, what if you had like 10,000 children?" I said, "well, think of Heavenly Father and Mother, they have all the children in the world." Emma then said "ya, and they are growing up and learning to drive." I thought that was pretty random!

I started making a list for Emma to accomplish all of her morning tasks and get ready for school on time. She is religious to it and checks off everything one by one. She was busily working on her list when she ran out into the kitchen and said "Mom, can you please add GO TO THE BATHROOM on the list, cause I really need to go!"

Don got breakfast for the kids the other day and poured Emma a big bowl of cereal. She was eating it and stopped and told him she was full and didn't think she could eat anymore. He told her to just keep eating so she did and finished it. She looked at Don and said "Dad, bless your heart, you were right! I finished it all."

The kids were playing and sweating and Emma looked at Ben and said "do you know that boys sweat, but girls just sparkle."

In FHE, Don held up a picture of the Jesus healing the 10 lepers and asked Emma if she knew this story. She said "Well, there were these ten leprachauns . . . "

BEN

This kid is full of them! He really keeps us laughing!

One day on the way to the gym in the car, Ben was playing with a sword he had gotten for Christmas. He said "Mom, did one of Santa's elves paint my sword red?"

Ben would watch star wars everyday if I let him. In one scene, there are a ton of bad storm troopers and so Ben stood up and said "Bad storm troopers. . . REPENT!"

Ben has been burping a lot lately (he thinks it is really cool.) He let out a really big one in the car and said "THANK YOU MOUTH!"

Erick got hurt and Ben went up and gave him a kiss and a hug. I praised him. The next morning, it was just Ben and I in the kitchen and I reminded him how much I appreciated him being so nice to Erick the night before. He said "does that mean I won't go to the bad place now?" I asked him what bad place. He said, "you know, the one you go to if you are bad after you die?" I said, "oh you mean spirit prison?" "Ya, he said, if I am nice, I won't go there, I am going to give Erick a hug and a kiss everyday!"

ERICK

Well, Erick isn't talking a ton yet, but he wears his emotions on his sleeve and has done a few really funny things lately.

Emma and Ben call each other "meanie" sometimes. So when Erick gets really mad at one of the kids he says "mimi."

I was doing something with the blender in the kitchen while Erick was eating lunch. It was loud and he put his hands on his cheeks and just shook his head and said in his humming way "loud" or "hmmm". The hands on cheeks was him plugging his ears, only apparently he doesn't know how to plug his ears.

In sacrament meeting last week, Erick was digging in my daiper bag and found one of Ben's star wars figurines. He started humming really loud the star wars theme. It was perfectly on pitch and quite loud. He went on for about 3 minutes and wouldn't stop.

We were eating McDonalds and Emma got a chicken nugget for Erick and dipped it in sauce and gave it to Erick. He ate it and waited for a minute then looked at Emma with a smile and said "mmmm Emma!"

These kids keep us laughing! It is so fun watching them grow and seeing their personalities blossom. One other thing I will mention is that all the kids just love Camille. They dote on her, we all do! She loves them too, she is always laughing and trying to keep up with them.

PJ Switch

We were looking through old pictures and we got a kick out of this one four years ago. Ben wanted to wear Emma's PJs so we just switched PJs on them. You can see who was happy about it and who wasn't.

Sunday, March 11, 2007

Well, now that it is almost the middle of March, I wanted to give an update on February. That is kind of how our life has been lately, just trying to catch up! That is ok tho. We try to get the important things done and let the other things just happen if they are supposed to happen. I was finally awake enough one night after the kids went to bed to have Don teach me, so here I go.

Anyway, we are all good and happy. Emma of course started her new school at Vickery Elementary. She likes it fine but misses her friends at Parkway and the quiet at Parkway. Apparently, she has a very loud classroom with two boys who are especially bothersome. She comes home more days than not saying that her head hurts and that Mrs. Nutt (cute teacher name huh?) had to blow the whistle because it was so loud. Emma goes in her room upon coming home from school and asks if she can just have three minutes of quiet! Hopefully next year she will have a quieter class, you can bet I will do all within my power to make that happen. Emma has finally voiced an interest in having some of her new friends come over to play which is good, I was wondering when that was going to happen. We are looking forward to Spring break this month and rest from school and homework! Emma had gotten a 101% on her last few spelling tests, we are excited for her.

Speaking of school, Ben is so ready to go to Kindergarten. Everytime we drop Emma off for school, he says that he wishes he could go too. He is loving his preschool days (Tuesday and Thursday). His teachers rave about his good behavior. Here at home, Ben and I have started doing reading lessons and he is such a quick learner and so willing to learn. He is doing well and will be a great little kindergartner! He and Erick still struggle to get along, Erick pushes all of Ben's buttons and vice versa. On the other hand, Ben can't get enough of Camille, he just loves her and helps me out so much with her and thinks she is the greatest thing on earth which is pretty much true!

Erick is two! His favorite things are to climb up on the bar stools and climb all over the counter. He loves to use Emma's markers and decorate his body and the table. Some happier news is that he is learning his colors and can kind of say them. He is talking a bit more and his cutest word right now is "fishie" which he says like this "heeshie". He also loves to be outside with the other kids, they are all enjoying our backyard! We shaved Erick's head, it was his first haircut and Don just pulled out the clippers and did it without me knowing. It turns out to be a good thing because he really looks better and it will grow in nice now, however I think we will keep it shaved throughout the summer. I did keep some of his gorgeous baby cornsilk hair tho to put in his baby book.

Camille is so CHUBBY! Her brothers and sisters were all 20 lbs by 6 months. She has caught up with that at almost 8 months she will be 20 lbs. It is amazing how much she gained in 2 months. She is sleeping great and is so happy to just sit and play with her toys. She loves her brothers and sister and they love her so much. I wish Cami would just stay this age forever as I am pretty sure she is our last baby, I would love to enjoy kissing and loving on her forever at this age. Although I know she will just get more and more cute and fun!

Don and I are happy and doing great. I am into American Idol so am happy that it will now just be two nights instead of three, it was wearing me out staying up that late to keep up with it. I record it and then watch it after the kids go to bed. We are enjoying our new home a lot. We have lots we still need to do but unfortunately most of it involves money and so it will have to wait! We have a good neighborhood and nice neighbors. We feel very blessed. That is all for now.
