Christmas 2008

Christmas Eve dinner. It was delicious!
The cook herself. Linda's orange rolss, creamed corn, bean casserole, twiced-baked potatoes, strawberry cream cheese jello, and Honeybaked Ham.

The kids before opening their PJ presents.

Showing off the new PJs.

Camille opening her presents.

Erick shows off his loot.

Ben the Samurai shows his too.

Emma with her new boom box.

Fritz finds a friend in Jabba the Hut.

So Jill sent me to the store to pick up the bread bowls she had specially ordered. I was shocked to see the size of the bowls. Surely these are not the correct ones. The Mexican baker was adament about selling me the bowls (think Soup Nazi on Seinfeld) and so I humbly stuffed the shopping cart with the Ogre-sized bowls and said "Feliz Navidad" and walked away. We invited all the poor of the city to dine with us and we still have leftovers.

I was just going to post the collage that I made in Picasa, but Jill gave it a big thumbs down. So I posted the pictures as well. For those of you who like collages, enjoy!

Hot Wheels Tournament

Our friends down the street exchanged gifts with the kids earlier this week. Erick got a Hot Wheel race track. Since I haven't grown up yet, I was pretty excited about Erick's new toy. Once I got it all put together, we began the tournament. We put all the old cars in one bracket and the new cars in the other bracket. The new car won. It was the yellow Side Dash or Emma Dash as it has been renamed.

A day later, we held the second tournament. This time the competition was a little more open. We tried to spread the speed around as it were so that we could truly determine which car was the fastest. Also, we changed the venue of the races. In stead of Ben and Erick's room, we moved the track to the smooth kitchen floor.

Suprisingly, it was Ben's Phantom car against the Emma Dash with the Emma Dash winning its second tournament

What memories!!

Starting posts.
Ben's Phantom and the Emma Dash in action.

This is a shot of the losing cars. The slower cars are at the bottom while those that went deeper in the tournament are at the top. Note the Mobil car in one of the slowest groups ... what a disgrace :-) Oh ... Fritz loved the racing. He sat there watching the cars almost the whole time!

Here are the top five winners. Ben's Phantom is the one that looks like the Batmobile. The Emma Dash is the yellow one in front. My favorite is the orange one in back. I'm sure over the Christmas break we'll host another speed tournament.

Beauty & The Beast

I remember watching Beauty and the Beast (the Disney one) while in high school. I was at a Christmas party with some friends with this show came out on VHS ... yes ... VHS. I must admit I enjoyed it.

Anyway, today Scott Meyer wrote a comic strip about it and I found it quite funny.

The Nutcracker Sweets

Can you believe it is really me writing on this blog? It has been oh so long. I could give you a list of excuses for not keeping up on the blog, but then, I bet y'all know all the excuses, so I won't go into them. I just wanted to add a comment or two about some of things that have been going on around here.

Needless to say, Emma's performance last night was so special. She has been excited about her solo and performance for months now and has been practicing and gearing up for this. It has been great for her confidence to really succeed at this and do such a great job on her first ever solo. For me, the performance was really magical, I got goosebumps and couldn't wipe the grin off my face. Emma looked so beautiful up there on stage and she really did sound like an angel. Her little performance will be one of my fondest Christmas memories for years to come.

Erick's birthday party was so much fun. I can't believe he is 4, he is growing so fast. He is such a fun little guy and such a joy to have at home. He comes up to me every once in awhile throughout the day to give me a hug and will say "mom, I like you." It melts your heart. He keeps busy all day and rarely stops to sit and rest. He is constantly on the go. He is the kind of kid that puts a smile on your face the moment he gets up and keeps you that way until he goes to bed. I am glad to have him around.

Benjamin is doing great at school and is enjoying taekwondo. He has become quite the little reader as he has to read 20 minutes a day for school. The other day he was telling me about his friend Jonathan at school and was saying how much fun they had together. Jonathan said "Ben, we are just like brothers!" Ben told me that he told Jonathan that they really are brothers because they are sons of Heavenly Father and so that makes them brothers for real. He said Jonathan didn't really understand but was happy that Ben thought they were really brothers. I praised Ben and told him that he had shared his testimony with Jonathan and was being a missionary to his friends. He is a good boy.

Miss Camille just wants to be like her older brothers and sister. She stays busy following Erick around. She occasionally gets her own playdates with her little friends and that is really special for her. She is still a screamer and at just about every meal I have to change her shirt because she makes such a mess. She does not believe in wearing bibs anymore and YOU just try to get one on her! I try to just strip her before each meal but she doesn't like that either. We do a lot of laundry. Thank goodness we have Fritz to clean up the floor! Don't you want to come eat a meal at my house now? We love Cami, she is just 2!

December is in full swing. We have something every night until Christmas as I am sure you do. It is fun but we sure enjoy those quiet moments when we can be together as a family. I am so thankful for my family, they are the light of my life! Merry Christmas everyone.

Erick Turns Four

Erick's birthday party was at Boomerang ... it is a kid's place full of bounce houses. They ate pizza and had lots of fun. Then we opened presents, came home and ate brownies. The story behind the brownies is Erick saw these ghost brownies on the Internet while Jill was reading a blog or something. He told Jill that he wanted that for his birthday. So Jill made ghost brownies for the dessert!

Thanksgiving in Tallahassee

We got up early the Sunday before Thanksgiving and drove to Jessen and Linda's in Tallahassee. It was one of my favorite trips. The kids had loads of fun playing together. The adults watched movies, played speed scrabble, went shopping and watched lots of football. I even got to go to the Florida v Florida St. game with Jessen. That was the highlight of the trip for me. We also went to Wakulla Springs and St. Marks. The weather was beautiful that day and the scenery was inspiring.

Linda and Jill cooked a wonderful spread of food. Jessen did a fantastic job on the deep fried turkey. I've never tasted such tender and delicious turkey. The rolls, sweet potatoes and everything was to die for.

Gator Boy

Erick love alligators. So when we went to Wakulla Springs and saw real lives ones, he was really excited. Also while we were in Florida, we bought Erick a Florida Gators hat.
