A Few Comments

The delivery went well. THANKS Richard for updating the blog with the news!

As you know, she was born at 12:51pm Central time. She weighed in at 7.2 lbs and 18 inches. She came out yelling! She is healthy and doing great. Her first feeding went well and it looks like she's well on her way to making her mark on the Earth.

Jill is wonderful! Her spirits were great all throughout the day. She was composed and did very well during the surgery. She is recovering now. With Erick, the medication made her itch terribly. She was worried the same thing would happen again. But the doctors worked with her and managed the itching much better this time.

Jill was able to hold the baby at around 4:30pm for the first time. The rest of the family came up a half hour later. Emma and Ben are really excited about the new baby. Erick found immediate interest in all the cords and closets. He smiled too when we showed him the baby.

Sandie has been a wonderful help this week. She was a HUGE help today watching them most of the day. We're going to miss her when she has to go home. But we are also anxious to see Grandma Putnam next week and Aunt Jan after that.

Name ... name ... name ... we're still negotiating over it. We've always know by the time I arrive back from the nursery for the first time. I feel good about one name, but Jill is a little unsure. I'll be going up to the hospital in a few minutes to talk it over with Jill. Before I go to bed tonight (and if we've decided) I'll announce her name.

THANK YOU for all your prayers and thoughts! We have felt them. Jill will probably stay in the hospital until Tuesday or maybe Monday ... depends on how she's feeling. Either way, we thank you for your continued prayers during her recovery.

We love you!

Don

The Countdown Begins

As many of you know, Jill is very close to the end of her 4th pregnancy. On Wednesday her blood pressure was high enough for the doctor to admit her to the hospital, but he just ordered her to go on bedrest. He scheduled a c-section for July 21st. This causes a problem with our birthdays (6th, 8th, 10th, 12th, 14th). I've long predicted that this one would come July 16th.

So today Jill went to the doctor again and her blood pressure was way down which is a good sign. It means the blood is circulating well. Jill was debating on whether to go to dinner and a movie tonight or stay home. After the appointment she decided she wants to go eat dinner and see Pirates. So we're going to test the "Olive Garden Theory." After eating Olive Garden's salad, Jill went into labor with Emma. As you may know, Emma was about two and a half weeks early. We ate at Olive Garden on a Saturday night and by Monday morning Jill was in the hospital.

We'll let you know how it all goes! Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts!

Cardinals

Last year we had pigeons in our tree. I was cleaning the backyard when I accidentally knocked the branch that held their nest. They flew off, but the babies stayed in the nest. It was quite the event.

This year we have some cardinals in our other tree. Fritz was out in the back one morning and Jill saw him pawing at something. It was one of the baby birds. Jill tried to get Fritz to go back inside, but he wouldn't listen. She finally had to drag him back in. The birds eventually got back in the nest (we think). I managed to get a picture of the pair from this year's nest ... if you look carefully, you can see the female in the bottom right corner of the picture.
