The Father & Sons Outing Report

Ben and I went to our first Father and Sons outing. It was a gorgeous day ... perfect for camping. We arrived at the site around 6:00pm. We set up our 8-man tent. It was the first time setting up our tent, so I had to read the instructions ... but once I got the hang of it, it was easy. Ben helped me hammer in the stakes. It was spacious inside and very nice.

After getting the tent up, we went walking around the lake. There were TONS of rocks and Ben was in heaven throwing them. He had a lot of fun. After we went walking, we headed back and Ben caught up with one of his friends. So I watched them as they explored and threw more rocks into the lake.

There were lots of fishers out on the lake. There were also tons of boats and wave-runners. The evening was really nice. No humidity, clear and a slight breeze.

When the sun set, we went back to the campground and sat around the fire. We told stories and sang hymns. The Young Men did a few things such as recite section 13 and the Aaronic Priesthood oath or something. The High Priests made peach and cherry cobbler. They also brought lots of ice cream bars. The cobbler was really sweet, but delicious. After that, Ben took off with the other kids and played some more (in the dark) while a few dads and I chatted around the fire.

The young men played some night cames. Ben and I went to bed around midnight, but didn't get to sleep until 2 or 3. The ground was HARD and I didn't sleep much, but it was still fun. We just need to get some foams for our sleeping bags.

We got up this morning at sunrise and put away the tent. We ate some breakfast and then Ben and I drove to the church for Saturday morning basketball. There were 8 of us and it was perfect ... we played 9 games for about 2 hours ... such fun. Ben ran around with me for a while, but he was pretty tired. He really loved camping. We're planning on doing that again. The campout really made me miss Eagle Cap Wilderness.

Above all other reasons to moving back to Idaho, the #1 reason for me to go back is so that we could go camping up in the mountains. How I miss that.

Gone.

The May Day Report

Well, it's been a while since I gave an update on our little family.

We survived the storms that hit North Texas the last couple of weekends. The rain is always welcome, but the winds and tornado threats aren't! Friday night, Jill had gone to bed and I was up burning the midnight oil when I heard the "chirp" on our weatherbug. I opened it up and read the tornado warning. Rarely does southern Denton county get an alert. What was particularly scary was the specificity of the warning. No other counties in DFW had a warning ... just Denton ... southern Denton. So I told Jill to listen for the neighborhood tornado alarm and that we would experience some rough weather that night. At about 1:30am the storm came rumbling through. It woke me up. I shut the window and then tried to go back to sleep. But the wind was ferocious. The rain was directly hitting our windows and I thought it'd bust the windows open. The lightening was loud and bright! It all lasted about an hour. Amazingly, the kids were silent through the whole storm. Jill got up to check on them, and they were sleeping like angels. The news reported that Gainesville (about 30-40 miles North) got the brunt of the storm. It caused about a million in damage. It was the worst storm we've seen since the ones that rolled through here 5 years ago.

Anyway ... we're safe and April is over.

Jill is less than 3 months to D-Day. She changed doctors (no, she's not pulling a Rush & going doctor shopping!) Her old doctor was going to deliver at a hospital about 20 minutes away and she felt it would be better if she delivered here in Lewisville. So she found a doctor who delivers here. I think she has an appointment this week or next. The previous date was July 27th, but since having scheduled that date, I've registered for Summer term classes and have class on the 27th! So she's going to try to convice the doctor to change the date to the 28th ... we'll see. Dance class is almost over for Jill. May is the last month. She has one more week of classes in our home and then her classes will meet at the Church in preparation for the big recital. Her parents will be coming down for Jessen's graduation (May 20th) and then they'll come visit us and attend the recital. So Jill is getting ready for all that, plus managing the kids ... she's one busy lady!

Emma lost her 4th tooth this week. This latest loss took quite some time. For about a week we tried to convince her to let us pull it out. But she wouldn't let us. One morning I looked at it ... it was hanging on a thread of skin (practically). I told her that she is going to be just like Arthur (caroon character) and that one of her friends is going to bump her in the mouth and the tooth will come out. Sure enough, I came home from work and she told me that one of her friends accidently "bumped" her in the mouth and the tooth came out. She was pretty happy!

Ben loves to go to pre-school. He and his friends have a lot of fun together. We recently got a trampoline. Ben spends lots of time on the tramp now. We've found that Ben is very thoughtful. We can tell he's going to be a thinker. He always shows concerns for Emma, Erick and his mom.

Erick is getting bigger by the day. I can't believe how big he is! He is already starting to outgrow the clothes Ben wore when he was two! Erick will be the big kid in nursury starting in June. He says da-da and wa-wa (water) a lot. He loves to laugh with Emma and Ben. He hardly ever walks ... if he has to get somewhere, he'll run.

As for me ... I survived a week of studying for finals. Tonight and tomorrow night I'll take the last exams for the Spring semester, then I'll have a week and a half break from school. I'll take 4 classes this summer and then I'll be pretty much done. My Sunbeams (in primary) are doing well. I've got them pretty much under control now and it is fun teaching them. The calling I had before this one was with the Webelos. The other Denmaster was released a month or so after I was released from that calling. He too was called to be a primary teacher. And now the circle is complete ... with the recent changes from the 1st Presidency, he and I are teamed up again ... this time teaching the Sunbeams. He and I are also hometeaching companions. We just think it's funny how we get paired up all the time.

We enjoyed the wedding pictures! We so wished we could have been there! It looked like a ton of fun!

We hope everyone has a great May!
