What a Great Week

It was a great week indeed. We blessed Camille, made memories with Grandma and Grandpa Hobson and watched the Cougs thump the Frogs (and I got to shake Brother Bradley's hand!)

We're sad to see the Hobsons leave ... especially Jill. They're heading to SLC on Friday where they'll spend some time with Jan and then catch the BSU v Utah game (two big games in 3 days ... how lucky!)

We hope everyone enjoys General Conference. We're looking forward to watching ALL the sessions this year now that we have BYU-TV.

Take care ... Love the Dallas Putnams

Shawn Bradley

Yep ... he was there. He and his family sat right in front of us. There were lots of people staring over in his direction. When BYU was up 31-10, his family left. On his way out, I stuck out my hand and he took it. I said, "how you doing Shawn? He said "fine," shook my hand, patted my back and walked on ... yep I shook hands with Brother Bradley.

Amon Carter Stadium

The stadium holds roughly 40,000 people. We were very suprised that a Texas top 20 team did not have a packed house!! There were lots of empty seats. The stadium itself is small and there really aren't any bad seats. There were about 5,000 BYU fans in attendance. The total attendance was around 32,000 (at least that's what the radio re-cap announcer said).

Jeff Enjoying the Game

Because Jeff has a cast on and can't go up and down stairs, he found a great spot in the wheel-chair accessible section ... we sat in the section right next to him. He sat next to the grandmother of the starting center for TCU.

An Update on the Family

It's been a while since I gave an update on our family happenings. I read Christine's this morning, so I thought I'd provide one as well.

We've been enjoying the cooler temperatures here in Dallas. We've been sleeping with the windows open all week and it's been nice.

We had a ward camp out at the Lake Grapevine this weekend. The kids had a blast. We were hoping for less humid weather, but the south winds kicked up and it was a humid and windy night. I chatted with ward members all night while the kids played. Our bishop was the real estate agent who helped us find our home. He's been in Texas for most of his life. He and his wife are originally from Kansas. He mentioned to me that there is only one natural lake in Texas. Every other lake is man-made. Since there are hundreds of lakes in Texas (including about half a dozen here in DFW) I was very suprised when he told me that tid-bit of info. Anyway, I thought that was interesting.

Jill, Erick and Camille got a night with the home to themselves. Jill got the kids to bed and enjoyed a quiet evening. She also was able to sleep in a bit Saturday morning.

Ben and Emma were up the next morning and played down by the lake for a few hours before we headed home. When I got home, I took about a dozen pain killers for my back and then I took another dozen pills for my allergies. I can't believe I used to go camping without a foam pad or mattress. The ground must have been softer in Oregon ... either that or I'm getting older.

Emma rules the roost in her first grade class. She is the youngest in her class. I've heard it before, but it is always fun to see it ... but this age (5 to 7) is really neat to watch as at the beginning of the year, they pretty much can't read. But by the end of this year, they are reading well. Every night, Emma reads two or three verses from the Book of Mormon. She is reading other books too ... like Cat in the Hat. She enjoys reading so much. Her favorite subject so far is math. On a downside, Emma is losing another friend. When we arrived here, there were three other families who had little girls Emma's age. All their birthdays were within a month of each others. One family moved to Boise a couple of years ago. Another family is moving to Arizona in October. Next year we'll be gone too.

Ben is enjoying pre-school. He is making lots of friends. He goes to school Tuesdays and Thursdays. On the other days, he just plays and bugs Jill about wanting to eat. He is constantly hungry, but when dinner time arrives, he won't eat his dinner, yet expects dessert. If he doesn't get dessert, the tears and whining begin. Asi es la vida con Ben. Ben is the comedian of the family. He somehow manages to come up with quotes from movies at the most opportune time ... which makes us all laugh.

Erick is so much fun. He is just so happy (most of the time). His vocabulary continues to grow ... papa, mama, moo-moo, cu-cu (coookie), mema (Emma), o-wall (oval), hot. He understands a lot. His favorite books are "Where the Wild Things Are", "Goodnight Room" and Elmo books.

Camille is so sweet. She's smiling now. She's starting to sleep pretty well through the night. Jill still gets up a couple of times. It is so fun when she is awake and happy. She'll just stare at you and smile. We love her so much.

Jill is gearing up to teach dance again. She has fewer students this year because she dropped one class. She enjoys going on walks in the cool mornings. The rest of the time is devoted to the kids. She's got her hands full. Her parents are coming this week to be a part of Camille's blessing. We're going to go to the TCU v. BYU game on the 28th. We can't wait!

As for me ... I'm down to one class a week. The international finance class I'm taking right now is painfully boring ... the content isnt' so bad, but the teacher is dreadfully boring. I'm not big into the hedging and options and fowards stuff ... I've never really appreciated it. So I'm just going along for the ride. Graduation is in December ... we're looking forward to the visit from Mom and Dad. Besides school ... I enjoy spending the extra time with the kids. Ben, Erick and I wrestle a lot after dinner. I get to put them to bed and tell stories and do spiders. When the kids are in bed, I play and study chess. I'm also reading all the Harry Potter books. I've never read all the ones that are out. So I'm going back and reading all six before the 7th one comes out next year. I imagine I'll be reading them all again in a few years when Emma gets into them. I also read today that Christopher Tolkien is publishing another one of his father's unfinished books. The article says the book will be entitled "The Children of Húrin." It will be about the Dwarves and Elves. Can't wait to read that ... probably will be out next year sometime too.

Well, that's about all for now.

We love you all!
