The Father & Sons Outing Report

Ben and I went to our first Father and Sons outing. It was a gorgeous day ... perfect for camping. We arrived at the site around 6:00pm. We set up our 8-man tent. It was the first time setting up our tent, so I had to read the instructions ... but once I got the hang of it, it was easy. Ben helped me hammer in the stakes. It was spacious inside and very nice.

After getting the tent up, we went walking around the lake. There were TONS of rocks and Ben was in heaven throwing them. He had a lot of fun. After we went walking, we headed back and Ben caught up with one of his friends. So I watched them as they explored and threw more rocks into the lake.

There were lots of fishers out on the lake. There were also tons of boats and wave-runners. The evening was really nice. No humidity, clear and a slight breeze.

When the sun set, we went back to the campground and sat around the fire. We told stories and sang hymns. The Young Men did a few things such as recite section 13 and the Aaronic Priesthood oath or something. The High Priests made peach and cherry cobbler. They also brought lots of ice cream bars. The cobbler was really sweet, but delicious. After that, Ben took off with the other kids and played some more (in the dark) while a few dads and I chatted around the fire.

The young men played some night cames. Ben and I went to bed around midnight, but didn't get to sleep until 2 or 3. The ground was HARD and I didn't sleep much, but it was still fun. We just need to get some foams for our sleeping bags.

We got up this morning at sunrise and put away the tent. We ate some breakfast and then Ben and I drove to the church for Saturday morning basketball. There were 8 of us and it was perfect ... we played 9 games for about 2 hours ... such fun. Ben ran around with me for a while, but he was pretty tired. He really loved camping. We're planning on doing that again. The campout really made me miss Eagle Cap Wilderness.

Above all other reasons to moving back to Idaho, the #1 reason for me to go back is so that we could go camping up in the mountains. How I miss that.
